This year marks Adventure's eighth year in business. We have a lot to celebrate, and three exciting announcements to share. But first, let’s set the scene with a brief history.
Adventure was born out of a yearning for us to take all of our screen printing, fabricating, welding and design skills and create signs for great businesses in Claremore. We soon after added awnings and a laser engraver to our tool belts, though neither ever surpassed signs as our “bread and butter.”
Since then we’ve added a full fabrication shop (2008), added a small fleet of trucks (2009), launched Ink My Job (2012) our wholesale printing service, we added sign drilling equipment (2013), were able to quit producing awnings and engraving (2013), launched our internship program (2013), remodeled our office spaces (2014), launched CityPartner Signs (2014) with our first digital sign location right here in Claremore, and have crafted thousands of signs, banners, and graphics around northeast Oklahoma.
Eight years in, we’re proud of the work we’ve done and the business we’ve built. And business has never been better!
We enjoy being a small company. We owe what we are today to several individuals who have been able to come alongside us over the years and influence our unique culture. We could hire several additional people to tackle a broader product offering, but we feel that kind of expansion is at odds with our current culture.
So, with that in mind, last summer we began conducting a review of our offerings, our customer base, our passions, our dreams, and our visions of the company for the next several years. When we put it all on the table, everything lined up and pointed at one clear conclusion. We got excited, and we knew it was the right time.
So today, eight years since our Adventure started down the trail, we have a couple announcements to make.
Here's the first. When Judy and I chose the name of our company, it wasn't without an ultimate purpose. On a vacation in 2006, Judy jotted down these few poignant words in a travel journal. “The mountains seem to keep calling to us, here we travel westward once more.” Never more have those words and callings rang true for us than today. The mountains of Steamboat Springs, Colorado have long called back to us. So, in what began on the ski slopes there years ago, has matured into the pleadings of my 13 year old daughter to move West. Judy and I, along with our children will be making the permanent trek westward to Steamboat as the 2015 summer comes to a close.
Of the few people we've told the news, we typically get the same reaction. "What!? How? Where am I going to go now?" So, here's the second big announcement. 5 years ago, I began volunteering on a creative team with a young gentleman with an extraordinary work ethic, a great eye, and creative talent. After several months, I offered him a job, and he has been working for me as our lead designer ever since. Many of you ask for him by name, and have come to look to him for your own creative endeavors as well. We are pleased to let you know that Josh Froman will be picking up the mantle and beginning a new Adventure all his own. Josh has taken over the reins at Adventure Signs as of this week. We are excited for him, and excited to see the things he is planning and will continue to create.
Moving forward, we will be focusing on creating quality handcrafted signage and designs for small brands. Our company was birthed out of this small hometown, and we want to help the hometown businesses coming up around us flourish. From design, to development, to execution & follow up - focused on one thing, handcrafting great quality signs.
Over the past several years, we have amassed quite a following of large sign projects. Most recently, we have been doing a lot of work with a great sign shop out of Pryor, Premier Signs & Design. (http://www.premiersignsdesign.com; 210 South Mill Street, Pryor, OK, 918-825-6422) Justin, John, Rachel, and Ben (or Lynn, or Ken as you see fit), are a great team to work with. They have acquired our truck fleet and a large amount of our fabrication equipment to handle all of your large sign, electronic message center, sign service, and lifting needs.
Designing and handcrafting signs is our best work, and our biggest winner. Our team has generated over 21,171 files, 630 of those since January alone. Eight years in, Adventure keeps accelerating.
So that got us to thinking...while Adventure is well known to our “usuals,” far more people have actually been associating us with the wrong type of products, due to our current location and previous association with awnings. Since we’re going to be paring down our need for a large fabricating building, why don’t we just go all in and make our space all about designing and crafting great signs.
With that, here's the third announcement. We're moving to a brand new location. A location where we can perfect the assembly flow, look, feel, sound, and smell we’ve always dreamed. No worries, we’re not moving far… We love working right near some of our favorite clients in the middle of Claremore. We love being able to take the bike to a client meeting, or walk the block around 3pm to recharge the creative juices. Over the next weeks we’re moving to 214 S. JM Davis Blvd between Napa Auto Parts and Midtown Rental. (You can follow the progress of building our dream space in the following here: Our Space)
The last eight years have been a blast, but with every future moment focused on what is best for everyone on our team, the next eight are going to be even better. We’re fired up, there are already loads of new Adventure’s on the planning boards.
We wish you all very well, and leave you in great hands.
Cheers from all of us at Adventure Signs,
*feel free to send us private messages here, or comment in the section below. Thanks!
What will Mike and Judy by doing in Steamboat?
As with most new adventures, there is still much down the trail that we can't see yet. That being said, Judy’s true heart lies in educating young minds. She is truly a godly woman to stand beside me as we have pursued my endeavors creating signs. She is a real trooper. It only makes sense that we now pursue both our dreams in the mountains. If it means she gets to pursue her true dreams, nothing would make me happier.
What about the CityPartner Sign for Claremore in front of Pizza Hut?
Glad you asked. We’ve had big hits before, but nothing has potential to be good to people like CityPartner Signs. Even though we are moving westward, a part of my heart will always stay in Claremore; in being good to the people who live here. Current billboard technology allows us to maintain the signs and our agreement from Colorado. In fact, we just this past week installed yet another sign in the community of Verdigris. We love the idea of being able to give municipalities access to great digital signage, and making the opportunity available for local businesses to get behind the community they love. Check out more info over at
What about all my past projects, large signs, and sign service needs?
If you have done a project with us in the past, Josh, and the new Adventure will still have access to all of your project specs and files. Rest assured, we’ve got you covered.
If you have been looking to us for your large sign installs, and sign service, and crane lifting, we have you covered there as well. Give Justin a shout at Premier Signs & Design. (http://www.premiersignsdesign.com) they'll take care of you.
What can I do to help?
There are a few things that you can do to help. The first is to help spread the word. Scroll to the bottom of this post and hit share. Let your friends know what's happening and why you like to do business with us.
Second, if you have a project in house with us in the next few weeks, a little patience goes a long way. We are in the process of moving out of our current location, moving into another, wrapping up all of our long term projects, and preparing to go westward. Patience will be the grease that keeps the machine moving nicely.
Third, and most important, pray. We are "good God-fearing people", and we're following his leading as we move through the next steps in our lives. We're leaning on Him, to guide us through the transition and our next moves. We would love if you joined with us in the endeavor, and remember us in your thoughts.
